CHAPTER ONE:
Skeletons in the Closet
Skeletons in the Closet
Tsubine waltzed over and sat on the table next to Lelouch. In the past, Lelouch and Tsubine were brothers, and good friends at that. When Lady Marianne was assassinated, Tsubine was not in Pendragon, but rather touring the newly conquered Area 11 with his older brother, Odysseus. He and Odysseus had barely anything in common with each other, unlike Schneizel and Tsubine. Schneizel was Tsubine’s idol, he wanted to be like Schneizel, even though he was three spots below him in succeeding the throne. Oddly enough, Schneizel was teaching Tsubine how to play chess like him. However, before he could finish his lessons, Schneizel was called away, and Tsubine learned how to pilot a Knightmare, under his older sister, Cornellia. By combining his intelligence and newfound piloting skills, he is nearly invincible on the battlefield. His custom Gloucester, the Black Devilfish, is a Gloucester fusion, involving Cornellia’s Custom, the Tristan, and the Gawain. It has a Hadron cannon as an optional armament, but he normally launches with his MVS and chain whip.
But why did a Royal Prince decide to join Ashford Academy? Why not a private tutor? Because. Because he needed to find Lelouch. Ever since Lelouch denounced his claim to the throne and sent to Japan as a bargaining tool, he had wanted to see him. It was a promise the two made two years before Lelouch gave up his claim to the throne...
“Big brother...do you want to be Emperor like Father?” A young Lelouch vi Britannia asked his older brother. The sky was dark in the Garden. The night sky was beautiful, millions of stars were visible and trillions more never seen. The two were both eight years of age at this point, two years before Marianne was killed by terrorists.
“Why do you ask, Lelouch? And you don’t have to call me ‘Big Brother’. We’re the same age.” The young Tsubine ja Britannia answered. His hair was short and spiked a little. The palace garden was abandoned at this time of night, so it was a perfect meeting place for the two brothers. Tsubine was the fourth prince of Britannia, while Lelouch was the eleventh.
“I just would like to know...because you’re gonna be Emperor sooner than I am...If we become Emperor...Brother Odysseus is first-in line, followed by sister Guinevere. And then there is Schneizel, Cornellia, Clovis, Euphie, then there’s you...and all the others...” Lelouch responded, gazing toward his brother. “I just want to know....will you be an Emperor like father?”
“Nella conquista, la penna è più potentemente di la spada. Nella politica, la spada è più potentemente di la penna.” Tsubine told Lelouch. That was his own phrase. He had come up with it out of his foreign language classes. It was something that would become the Britannian Motto.
“Um...What does that mean?” Lelouch said, looking quizzical. He had opted out of Italian and spanish, and was only taking Japanese.
“In conquest, the pen is mightier than the sword. In politics, the sword is mightier than the pen.” He answered, still looking to the heavens above. Tsubine stood up and looked at Lelouch. “You need to get out more....”
“What?” Lelouch turned to Tsubine, but nothing but the air was there. Tsubine had vanished. That was the last time they would see each other on friendly terms until...
“Then I give up my claim to the throne!” The ten-year old Lelouch exclaimed to his father, enraged after Charles gave up on Nunally. Tsubine had to squeeze his way between the crowd to watch.
“Lelouch....” He knew that something was about to happen when Charles stood up. The speech he gave made both Tsubine and Lelouch cower a bit, Lelouch more than Tsubine.
After the fierce exchanging of words, Tsubine met up with Lelouch. “Hey, Lelouch...” Tsubine said as he slowly opened Lelouch’s bedroom door.
“GET OUT!” Lelouch yelled towards Tsubine, his voice cracking a bit. The teas in his eyes were full of Anger and sadness. Mostly anger. His father had disowned both him and his sister, Nunally.
That was eight years ago. Lelouch was now the head and founder of the Black Knights, but as Zero. Lelouch’s face had three emotions...anger...shock...and fear. He was in grave danger as being discovered as an ex-prince with Tsubine here. ‘Damn. I may not be able to sneak past this guy...Dammit brother, why did you have to enroll here?’.
Tsubine had a much rather sinister look on his face. It was hidden behind his smug smile. ‘Lelouch...I’ve got you. I know you are Zero. Trust me...I can kill you whenever I want to...But, I will wait until we meet on the battlefield...’ Tsubine was waving off questions and smiling and actually being charismatic. To Tsubine, if he could pose as not having memoies of Lelouch as his brother, he might be able to fool him.
“If I may, you’re highness...” A brown-haired teenager, around the same age as Lelouch sat down beside Tsubine. He was the Knight of Seven, Suzaku Kururugi. He and Lelouch had a past together, and unbeknownst to Tsubine, Suzaku knew that Lelouch was Zero.
“Why of course, Knight of Seven...” The smug smile expanded, for Lelouch could not and would not do anything. Tsubine had met Suzaku before, as Euphie’s Knight. The two really didn’t converse, but rather, they made eye contact. They were alike...sort of.
“I guess everyone found out who the new guy is!” Milly’s voice echoed through the school via the PA system. Milly wasn’t an airhead, she was rather cunning, just...annoying. “I will be setting up an event to welcome the new guy..but it will be a surprise!” The PA went blank.
‘Dammit dammit dammit!. I’m not gonna be able to do ANYTHING if Ms. Ashford keeps getting in my god damn way! But...it might serve me as doing good...I do have to keep up public appearances...’ Tsubine smiled as the class bell rang. Before he could leave the classroom, a blue-haired male stepped behind him.
“Mr. Prince!” The voice was rather annoying, but Tsubine could tell that the guy’s IQ was not near his level.
“Don’t call me ‘Mr. Prince’. You may call me ‘Your highness’ or something of the sort.
“Yessir, sir. I am Rivalz Cardemonde, at your service!” Rivalz introduced himself and then bowed. He was around average height, but looked like an airhead. “You do know that all students are required to join a club, right?”
“Hmm?” Tsubine for once did not know something...’A club? Shit. I have to join something...Swim? No...I doubt Lelouch is any more active than he was back then...Chess? Maybe...but..no...Student Council...Hmmm...Members...?Milly Ashford...Lelouch....Lamperouge?! Marianne’s maiden name...ha...hahaha...perfect...’ Tsubine turned back to Rivalz. “May I join the student council?”
Rivalz looked a little enthusiastic, “Sure! Let me tell Milly and Lelouch.”
Tsubine’s smile turned sinister, instead of smug “Okay, tell me when I can attend meetings....”
His plan...was going as planned....
