Personality: Kenshin desires to protect every individual from danger without harming others. Formerly known as "the strongest hitokiri," Kenshin is the main target of many old enemies and people who want to gain his title, thus he avoids letting others get too close to him personally for their own protection. However, he eventually begins relying on his friends, allowing them to fight alongside him.
If he is not able to protect his loved ones, he begins to shift into his "Hitokiri Battōsai" personality, and takes extreme measures in order save others, caring little for the well-being of his opponents. However, Kenshin avoids changing his personality, swearing that he will never kill, and will try to avoid the deaths of as many people as possible.
Kenshin's Japanese-language dialogue contains some unusual words and catch phrases. Most of the time, he refers to himself with the extremely humble pronoun "sessha" (translated in the manga by Viz as "this one") and uses the formal verb "de gozaru" (conveyed by Media Blasters by phrases like "…that it is."). He also addresses most women with an honorific which is generally reserved for feudal lords. In the English anime, "Miss Kaoru" is used instead of "Kaoru-dono." When in his "Battōsai" mode, Kenshin changes from being polite to serious; one of his quotes, "de gozaru", disappears and "sessha" is replaced with the more typical brash male pronoun "ore".[19] Throughout the series, Kenshin uses the quote "oro" quite alot.

Maya tends to do things in an indirect way and unlike kenshin she lives for killing. when kenshin doesn't allow her to taste blood she goes nuts, this is why kenshin slices his palm once every month.
Sealed Zanpakutô :
Shikai Description: it's the sameas the sealed form. it gains te power to create fire and manipulate both fire and wind, it specializes in speed for kenshin's techniques.
Release: Iyamotto (No More, connecting to his past)
Bankai: sword stays the same. however, maya becomes a physical manifestation making her able to fight alongside him. his elemental abilities and his specialization stay the same, although maya has other abilities. she uses the elements of water and earth and she specializes in power.
Banki Release: Bankai, Shura Maya (fighting maya)
History/Background: as a child kenshin studied the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu under his teacher, Hiko Seijuro, and in his stubborn attempt to not let anyone die in front of his eyes again he left before finishing his training. trying to create an era of piece, he became a hitokiri and was given the title of 'Battousai'. after a while of wrong-doing he decided to give up the way of the hitokiri, embrace the way of the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu and become a rurouni to protect every innocent soul. he died protecting his friends.
after he landed in SS in the inner city of Seireitei e didn't know where to go. the 1st squad captain, Yamamoto Genryuusai, said he saw potential in him and that he should apply for the Shinigami Academy. so said, so done. he applied for the shinigami academy and started his teachings. his best techniques were kenjutsu and his worst were hakuda. even though it was decent.
when he finished academy, he joined the 10th squad as 3rd seat. he, once again, threw away the principle of the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu and worked under the Gotei 13. when he had killed many hollows and sometimes advent humans he decided not to relive the life of the hitokiri.
he left SS and the gotei 13. and got a special gigai from urahara which allows him to still carry his zanpakutou. even though he can't go into his bankai or shikai state. now he's a wandering shinigami who doesn't kill hollows unless someones in danger and almost never goes out of gigai. staying in gigai he's far more comfortable, since there is absolutely no chance of him going back into his Battousai form.
