Ashisogi Jizō is a bodhisattva that appears to be a golden baby dressed in the robes of a monk. It is known for watching over children and the underworld. In zanpakuto form, Ashisogi Jizō is a sheathed blade with a pink hilt hung on Mayuri's sash in front of him, rather than on the side. There are what appears to be several leaves protruding out underneath the hilt and a hook has been added to allow Mayuri-teichō to move freely without fear of losing it.
The command used to release the Shikai, Initial Release, is "Rip". The Shikai warps Ashisogi Jizō, causing more golden leaves to appear on the hilt. The blade glows and morphs to form the head of a baby, including hands gripped in prayer. Three jagged and misshapen blades appear from the head forming a sort of trident. Poisonous gas flows from the mouth of the baby at alternating intervals. The ability gained by Ashisogi Jizō is the ability to release a toxin into the body upon piercing it, severing the signals connecting that particular body part to the brain. The stabbed portion, such as if a limb, will become limp and useless. Following Mayuri's sadistic nature, the pain receptors will remain intact, allowing for the dead body part to still feel pain."Bankai, Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō!"Upon uttering the word Bankai, Ashisogi Jizō releases a seperate being, an enormous catepillar-esque creature dawning a red cape and silver halo. The head is the deformed golden head of Ashisogi Jizō. At this point, the Ashisogi Jizō that releases this creature returns to its sealed form. Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō breathes out large plumes of a sinister poisonous gas derived from the blood of the Captain himself, allowing him to change it on a dime. The only ones immune are Mayuri and his daughter, although Mayuri carries an antidote at all times. The gas is strong enough to destroy whatever it consumes at a near instant rate. By stabbing himself with his zanpakuto, Mayuri can revert into a liquid form and escape.

[/color][/size][/blockquote][/blockquote][/blockquote]Personality/Attitude: Sadistic and twisted, Mayuri sees the world as his laboratory and its creatures as specimens. Life and will mean little to him, shown when he uses his own subordinates as bombs. A curious seeker of knowledge, his goal is to obtain a specimen of every species and learn how it ticks. He holds no regard for others, going so far as using his own daughter as a trap or distraction, although it is hinted that he cares something for Nemu.
Background/History: Before joining the ranks of the Seireitei, Mayuri was a prisoner in the Maggot's Nest, a place known for holding dangerous beings like himself. His mind needed by the current leader of Squad Twelve, he reluctantly agreed to be removed from the Nest on the condition he become Vice President of the Dept. of Research & Development, under Urahara's care. After the exile of Urahara, the VP rose to take over the department and later Squad Twelve itself.
After gaining an interest in the rare Quincy, Mayuri captured, dissected, and experimented on Ishida Soken. After losing interest, he discarded the specimen. During the invasion of the ryoka, Mayuri engaged Ishida Uryu, the grandson of Soken. After playfully mocking him and sadistically tearing him down piece by piece, Mayuri's overconfidence became his downfall as Uryu used his final trump card, giving him superb power that was enough to defeat him. Forced to use his own last resort, Mayuri stabbed himself, becoming liquid, and esaped.
